Waarom goede gripsokken het verschil maken bij pilates en waar je op moet letten?

Why good grip socks make a difference in Pilates and what to look for?

If you regularly do pilates, yoga, or barre, you probably know the feeling: you're in an exercise, your foot slips just a little too much, and instead of focusing on your core, you're busy with your balance. A small annoyance, a big effect on your practice.

Good grip socks solve that. But not every grip sock does what it promises.

What exactly does a grip sock do?

A grip sock has a pattern of silicone or rubber studs on the bottom that provide traction on the mat, reformer apparatus, or floor. That sounds simple, but the execution makes all the difference.

A sock with too few studs will still slip. A sock with studs only on the ball of the foot offers no support when standing on your heels. And a sock that is too loose will cause your foot to shift inside the sock. Which is just as frustrating as no grip at all.

What should you look for when choosing pilates socks?

The grip pattern should cover the entire sole of the foot. Many cheaper socks only have grip under the ball of the foot or the heel. In pilates, you use your entire sole from toe ball to heel, so the grip pattern must follow suit.

The fit determines everything. A sock that is too wide will bulge around the toe or instep, causing your foot to still slide. Look for a sock with a tight, anatomical fit that hugs the foot without pinching.

Material determines how long the sock lasts. Cheap grip socks lose their grip after a few washes. Choose a sock with a durable material mix: cotton for comfort, polyester for strength, elastane for stretch.

Aesthetics also matter. Your pilates outfit is part of how you feel in the studio. A beautiful, refined sock contributes to that feeling, and that's not nonsense, that's psychology.

How PLTÉ originated

PLTÉ started from a concrete frustration. Good pilates socks simply weren't available. Everything was uncomfortable, felt cheap, or didn't provide real grip. So we started designing them ourselves.

The result is a grip sock with an extended grip pattern that goes further than standard socks, a snug fit so your foot doesn't shift inside the sock, and a minimalist design that matches the aesthetic of the modern studio.

Designed in the Netherlands. Made with care.
